Rising optimism in the global 3D TV market

With rosy projection of the 3D TV market by research firms and industry players alike, the worldwide 3D television business is poised to be the next strong wave. With almost all TVs becoming full HD, better image quality alone will no longer entice consumers. Many companies are turning their attention to 3D TV - the emerging new product differentiating factor. In 3D TV, content is more important than hardware itself and in 2010 the provision of 3D contents is expected to become more active.

Nevertheless, the 3D TV arena has challenges such as the still lacking 3D contents and standards, narrow viewing angle, the necessity of 3D glasses, and eye fatigue from the extended usage. Competing formats and technologies mean consumers may be unwilling to invest in a 3D TV until they know which will become the prevailing standard. In addition, 3D TV might not be able to provide all the values as 2D TV does for a while. Therefore, developing no-glass 3D display technology, rapidly producing desirable 3D content and increasing consumer awareness will be critical to the success of 3D TV.
